Abstract
It is well known that iproniazid inhibits the monoamine oxidase (MAO) activity in all tissues.
And that ephedrine is said to have an inhibiting action on the MAO activity.
In this paper, in order to study the influence of iproniazid on some pharmacological actions of
ephedrine, the action of ephedrine on the blood pressure, auricular and intestinal motilities of rabbits pretreated with iproniazid were compared with the ephedrine action on those of control rabbits.
The results obtained were as follows;
1. The pressor effect of ephedrine in rabbits pretreated with iproniazid had a tendency to decrease in comparison with that of control rabbits.
2. The augmentary effect of ephedrine on the excised auricle tended to increase in rabbits pretreated with iproniazid.
3. The inhibitory effect of ephedrine on the excised intestine was antagonized in rabbits pretreated with iproniazid.
When the excised intestine incubated with iproniazid in vitro for 3 minutes, the inhibitory effect of ephedrine was antagonized in small doses and potentiated in large doses.
